March 2, 2013 Family Fun Day Event
We held our first event for 2013. Despite the cold weather, we had around 100 people in attendance. This included the children, parents and grandparents, and the volunteers who helped us with the event. In a group that large there are bound to be many stories about their lives. Here are just a few we learned about. We had a single parent who felt the need to get back involved in church because he knew he needed to do that for his child. We had several local churches represented by either the pastors or lay people who were willing to talk to this man and he made the decision to attend church on Sunday morning. We praise God for this family being ministered too. There were also a set of twin boys who were brought by a friend of their grandmother's. These boys had recently lost their mother to a battle with cancer. But a compassionate friend saw the need to get the boys involved in an activity to try to make their lives as normal as possible in the midst of a great loss in their lives. The boys had fun and hopefully were made to smile & laugh even for a short time despite their pain. There were others there who come from difficult home lives, but hopefully through this event they were shown the love of Christ and made to feel good as our counselors tried to make them feel welcome.
We hope each person was ministered to through the Bible lesson of Jesus Feeds the 5,000. We know today Jesus still cares about our physical needs as well as our spiritual needs and wants to minister to both needs in our lives. He draws us close to Himself through the Holy Spirit.
